One of Giuseppe Verdi’s most intense and passionate works, Il Trovatore returns to the Sferisterio in Macerata with the famous production by Mexican director Francisco Negrin, which over the years has become one of the Festival’s highlights.
A work dominated by extreme passions, revenge and destiny, in which love for Leonora ignites the tragic rivalry between the Count di Luna and the troubadour Manrico, while the enigmatic figure of Azucena guards a secret destined to make the story even more cruel.
A tale that intertwines private conflicts and collective tensions, leading to a finale of great emotional impact.
This production, which debuted at the Sferisterio in 2013, stands out for its seemingly minimalist yet visually powerful set design, amplified by the presence of flames on stage, which transform the monumental space into a place charged with tension and drama.
The opera is conducted by Dmitri Jurowski, while the cast brings together some very interesting voices: the famous Italian tenor Piero Pretti in the role of Manrico, the refined baritone Franco Vassallo as Count di Luna, the soprano Marta Torbidoni from the Marche region in the role of Leonora, and the young Sofia Petrovich as Azucena, an artist who is constantly growing after important international debuts, including at the Opéra de Paris.
