Shakespeares wohl berühmteste und zugleich tragischste Liebesgeschichte in Hector Berlioz’ dramatischer Chor-Symphonie Roméo et Juliette begeisterte in der Isarphilharmonie unter Robin Ticciati.

Das Musikfest 2017 wurde mit einem Konzert des Orchesters der Deutschen Oper Berlin beschlossen. Gegeben wurden zwei Bruchstücke von Roméo et Juliette und der Walküre, die die beiden Seiten des Orchester beleuchteten.

En associant des extraits de la « symphonie dramatique » de Berlioz et de la « symphonie chorégraphique » de Ravel, le chef italien et la phalange lyonnaise ont produit un programme mitigé.

En partenariat avec la Philharmonie de Paris, l'Orchestre philharmonique de Strasbourg et le chef américain ont présenté une réalisation somptueuse de la symphonie dramatique de Berlioz.

What is there to say about Hector Berlioz’s Roméo et Juliette? A “dramatic symphony” in seven movements, featuring small and large choruses, and three soloists (two of whom sing for around five minutes each and one who sings for around 30), as well as a treasure trove of unusual instrumental combinations and sounds, it is safe to say this is something of an odd bird.

In one of several (pretty outrageous) notes to conductors in the score of his Roméo et Juliette, Berlioz states that “the average listener has no imagination” and, as a result of this, the sixth movement of the work should be cut in 99 per cent of performances.
