Two-part anniversary event of the Ballet Department of the National M. K. Čiurlionis School of Arts

One-act ballet "Chopiniana"

Performed by: 8–12 grade students of the Ballet Department of the National M. K. Čiurlionis School of Arts

"Chopiniana" is a pearl of romanticism, a one-act ballet created by choreographer and innovator Michel Fokine in 1908 to the music of Frederic Chopin. It is a mosaic of dreams, visions and romantic reveries of the main character – a young man, expressed in a wonderful dance of the goddesses – sylphs. The plot of the ballet, known for its poetic and emotional expression, is revealed in dreamy and romantic variations, filled with free spirit, feelings and romance. The choreography of "Chopiniana" is based on the elegance and grace of dance, coloured with unique emotional expression and subtlety. The ballet is famous not only for its music, but also for the memorable aesthetic beauty created by the dance.

Premiere. Dance performance "Letters to Life"

Performed by: 1–12 grade students of the Ballet Department of the National M. K. Čiurlionis School of Arts

The performance "Letters to Life" is a choreographic dedication to the most prominent Lithuanian artist Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis. This dance interpretation invites the audience on a sensual journey through the creator's life, thoughts and inner experiences, accompanied by the joy of creation, loneliness, quests and love for the homeland.

Inspired by Čiurlionis' letters, the performance is like a poetic diary that reveals the artist's spiritual world. The dancers' movements tell not only the historical path of M. K. Čiurlionis, but also the eternal questions of human existence: what does it mean to create? How to remain true to oneself? Is it possible to live only through art?

Jurijs Smoriginas' choreography subtly combines the foundations of classical ballet with contemporary means of expression. Each dance in the performance is like a living letter sent from the past to the present, from the heart – directly to life.
