Présenté comme un programme France/Russie, l’affiche déborde largement de ce seul cadre par les évocations exotiques de Gabriel Pierné et de Claude Debussy, accolées au Concerto pour violon no. 2 de Dimitri Chostakovitch.

Un programme français de toute beauté pour l'ONF qui résonne par-delà la frontière pyrénéenne sous la direction de Juanjo Mena ; outre le rare concerto pour piano de Pierné, rien de moins que la première suite de Carmen de Bizet, Iberia de Debussy et la Rapsodie espagnole de Ravel. 

At the Philharmonie, an all-French programme conducted by Juanjo Mena takes the audience back to the vibrant Parisian scene of the 1910s and 20s. 

Prom 29 had a distinctly French flavour, with themes of dance and birdsong running through the programme in a glittering performance of music by Mozart, Ravel, Messiaen and Stravinsky.

Jean-Efflam Bavouzet gave his thought-provoking, violent and percussive take on Bartók, Ravel and Beethoven - intelligent and uncompromising performance at its best. 

The LPO give thrilling performances of colourful French classics, with the mood slightly dampened by an absurd performance of Poulenc's Concerto for Two Pianos.

One always comes to a young musicians' concert with a slight hope that this will be that special day when you hear a performer who you are absolutely sure will be a star of the future. That hope only comes to fruition on a small number of occasions: this concert was one of them. I'm willing to take bets that nineteen year old Parisian cellist Edgar Moreau is going to have a glittering career.
