En associant des extraits de la « symphonie dramatique » de Berlioz et de la « symphonie chorégraphique » de Ravel, le chef italien et la phalange lyonnaise ont produit un programme mitigé.

Ce ballet-opéra, où les chanteurs lyriques partagent la scène avec les danseurs, est repris pour la troisième fois à l’Opéra Bastille.

L’Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, sous la baguette de Tugan Sokhiev, et Orfeón Donostiarra offraient à la Halle aux Grains de Toulouse un Roméo et Juliette de Berlioz qui s’est avéré inégal. Serait-ce lié à un effet « salle » ?

Une représentation de la symphonie dramatique Roméo et Juliette qui est enthousiasmante par certains côtés, mais aussi décevante par beaucoup d’autres : triomphe du chœur Aedes.

Un programme original, un orchestre compétent et des musiciens invités reconnus : tous les ingrédients étaient réunis pour un grand concert, mais quelques petits problèmes dans la réalisation ou choix artistiques étonnants vinrent nuancer l'impression générale.

What is there to say about Hector Berlioz’s Roméo et Juliette? A “dramatic symphony” in seven movements, featuring small and large choruses, and three soloists (two of whom sing for around five minutes each and one who sings for around 30), as well as a treasure trove of unusual instrumental combinations and sounds, it is safe to say this is something of an odd bird.

In one of several (pretty outrageous) notes to conductors in the score of his Roméo et Juliette, Berlioz states that “the average listener has no imagination” and, as a result of this, the sixth movement of the work should be cut in 99 per cent of performances.
