In rein konzertanter Form wirkte die musikdramatische Kraft von Webers Freischütz unmittelbar und intensiv. Antonello Manacorda hatte die Partitur präzise ausgeleuchtet, die Kammerakademie Potsdam spielte klangschön und das Gesangsensemble füllte seine Rollen eindrucksvoll aus.

Reinventing the Romantics: Manacorda, Faust and the OAE

Alexander Hall, 15th February

Not all expectations were fulfilled in this concert by the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. Isabelle Faust made a strong case for Schumann's Violin Concerto, whereas Antonello Manacorda adopted a paint-stripping approach to both overture and symphony.
