Sir Simon Rattle launches his Roots and Origins series with a rare combination of three distinctive works, each steeped in history and folk tradition.

Leaping rhythms abound in Dvořák’s Slavonic Dances, with its unmistakably Bohemian and pastoral character. It’s a stark contrast to Janáček’s noble and ceremonial Sinfonietta, an ode to his hometown of Brno in the Czech Republic, and to Britten’s choral Spring Symphony, with its mysterious reimagining of traditional English song and verse.

Sir Simon Rattle leads us on an unexpected journey through this diverse musical landscape – showing how these three contrasting works are bound together by a deep connection to their respective traditions, their musical and cultural heritage sculpted and remoulded by each composer’s individual voice.
