Es klingt nach einer Herkulesaufgabe, Benvenuto Cellini, dieses berüchtigt schwierige, mit Makeln behaftete Werk Berlioz', das vom Publikum seit seiner Uraufführung gemieden wird, in ein ansprechendes und äußerst unterhaltsames Abendprogramm zu verwandeln, das seiner jugendlichen, energetischen Musik gerecht wird. Terry Gilliam gelingt es... und es ist ein Wunder.
