At the Edinburgh International Festival, Alison Balsom plays Wynton Marsalis's Trumpet Concerto, Pierre-Laurent plays Schoenberg's Piano Concerto before the RSNO plays Lutosławski's lively Concerto for Orchestra to finish.

The world premiere of Iraqi-American composer Amir ElSaffar's ambitious Dhikra (Remembrance) very nearly succeeds in its ambitions. 

The rediscovered version of the Tomasi Trumpet Concerto from Håkan Hardenberger, Fabien Gabel and the Indianapolis Symphony shares the limelight with an authoritative Indy premiere of Florent Schmitt's La Tragédie de Salomé. 

It would be rash to make assumptions about the composer/performer collective based on a single program, but it was still not to notice a divergence from the past in the program of world premieres.

In something of a surprise, the standout item on this Minnesota Orchestra concert program turned out to be a short chamber piece by Miguel del Águila.

What other treasure might be hidden in the attic? One find is surely Weinberg’s Trumpet Concerto, as performed here by Håkan Hardenberger with Andris Nelsons and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. Dvořák completes the bill.
