L’affiche regroupe dans un diptyque inattendu Il Prigioniero de Luigi Dallapiccola et Das Gehege (L’Enclos) de Rihm. Deux opéras qui posent les bonnes questions.

De nouveau réunis un peu plus d'un an après un concert déjà exceptionnel, les deux géants Noseda et Chamayou, sous la gouverne des Grands Interprêtes, se retrouvaient sur les planches de la Halle, avec cette foi l'Orchestre de Turin.

Pour la première affiche de la saison, le Théâtre du Capitole accueillait deux opéras en un acte. Si les deux œuvres sont fort éloignées sur le plan du style et du langage, leur lien apparait à la lumière de leur contexte de création.

Tony Pappano’s recipe for a concert programme: take a 20th century Italian one act opera, follow it with a romantic symphony chopped in half, then throw in a related German aria; play without a break. It may sound like a train wreck in the making, but the result was a triumph.

Alan Gilbert’s last few seasons at the New York Philharmonic have featured an opera in June. While previous efforts have featured elaborate staging, this year’s installment, Luigi Dallapiccola’s Il prigioniero, was performed in concert. For this particular work, which was written for radio broadcast, this seems only appropriate.

From the heights of genius, of life-affirming, triumphant joy, to the depths of cruelty, of hopeless, nihilistic despair, Esa-Pekka Salonen and the Philharmonia Orchestra presented two musical visions of humanity in this first concert in their new series, entitled ‘“The still point of the turning world”: Music that defines an era’.

Noseda is a persuasive champion of Dallapiccola's orchestral works. Two CDs [with the BBC PO] on Chandos, and talk of a third.So no surprise to find the early Partita programmed in this prom. It's a work of many colours, beginning with the dark low notes and steady rhythms of a solemn processional, which moves slowly into the sunny upland, guided by Yuri Torchinsky's limpid violin.
