« The expressive complexity of Tchaikovsky’s Pathétique, its desires, fears, agonies and dreams, captivated the audience in Valčuha’s interpretation with the brilliant Bambergers. As if from nowhere, the bassoon’s lament over dark chords of deep basses; the glowing song of a dream image as the second theme. In the climax, Valčuha then also signalled the rebellion of a hero with wide arm sweeps towards blaring trumpet blasts, skilfully dampening the resigned fading of the movement. »
