The La Monnaie Choruses perform the most exquisite prayers from operas by Mozart, Verdi, Saint-Saëns, Puccini and others.
In Mefistofele, the ecstasy of heavenly redemption; in Die Zauberflöte, an initiation ceremony preparing a young couple to face trials; in Aida, the solemn invocation of the god Ptah … Throughout opera history, the expressive richness of choral singing has inspired composers to write some of their most glorious pages of music.
Performing and mastering these scores for over 300 years, the La Monnaie Choruses have developed a strong identity that occupies a vital place in our house. In this programme, they will showcase some of the most beautiful prayers from operas by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Gioachino Rossini, Gaetano Donizetti, Charles Gounod, Giuseppe Verdi and other, under the guidance of their artistic director, Emmanuel Trenque, who is celebrating the thirtieth year of his career as chorus master.
