After their "military" theme last week, Daniele Gatti and Markus Werba turned towards nature for their second programme with the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia.

The final day of Oxford Lieder's 80-event festival was framed by two recitals taking us from the world of German folklore andDes Knaben Wunderhorn, to the pain and drama of romantic entanglements. 

Excellent chamber orchestras are a true pleasure to behold. The Wiener Virtuosen were in their element in an evening of Mozart, Mahler and Dvořák. 

Theodor Currentzis and his musicAeterna bring blistering detail and revelatory playing to Wunderhorn-period Mahler, but it ultimately proves short on warmth. 

Ottensamer shared the stage at Wigmore Hall with pianist José Gallardo and together they took it by storm with the erupting scalar passages in the first movement of Weber’s Grand Duo concertant.

Salonen has an obvious vision on how to conduct Mahler, relentelsly driving the orchestra in the direction he wants.

Soprano Lisa Larsson and pianist Roland Pöntinen dispelled the midwinter gloom with a heavy dose of Scandinavian Romanticism and the Dutch première of Rolf Martinsson's Songs on Poems by Emily Dickinson.
