Effortless Vaughan Williams from Maria Włoszczowska, with atmospheric Musgrave and a blooming Schumann First Symphony. 

Handel's oratorio Susanna is often considered to be less than consistently dramatic and this performance in the Halle Handel Festival did little to dispel that view.

It is a high order to mount a captivating performance of a work so widely known and performed as Handel's Messiah. 

With splendid singing from Chorus of Royal Nothern Sinfonia and Quay Voices; Paul McCreesh’s B Minor Mass is full of joy but lacks emotional punch.

There are few concert-going pleasures as rewarding as hearing a great conductor performing music he is clearly passionate about and inspiring those around him to ever greater heights of involvement with the music. This is what the audience at the Auckland Town Hall was treated to with Paul McCreesh and his interpretation of Elgar's Symphony no. 2 in E flat major with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra. 

After Friday’s sublime performance of Handel’s L’Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato at the opening concert of 2013 Lufthansa Festival of Baroque Music, I am puzzled why this ravishing masterpiece doesn’t enjoy wider popularity (although it was performed recently at the London Handel Festival).

Mendelssohn’s oratorio Elijah, first performed at the Birmingham Town Hall in 1847, was enormously popular in Victorian England. In this sense, the Royal Albert Hall, the grandest of Victorian buildings, is spiritually an ideal venue for this great choral masterpiece.

Porté ici par un Gabrieli Consort en bonne forme, quoiqu’un peu contenu par la direction de Paul McCreesh, et des solistes tout à fait convaincants, King Arthur rappelle ici ses grandes qualités musicales

Beinahe war dieser King Arthur so rund und erhaben schön, dass die fünf Akte auch zu fünf Sternen geführt hätten.

Gabrieli Consort & Players zelebrieren Händels Musik vorzüglich.

Zusammen mit dem Chor war für mich der Countertenor Iestyn Davies der klare Höhepunkt des Abends

Loin de la ringardise dans laquelle certains voudraient reléguer l’œuvre et le genre, Le Pré aux Clercs constitue un très beau moment de musique et de théâtre, plein de charme et d’humour.
