Radu Lupu accompagné par la Kremerata Baltica fut un bonheur d’équilibre et de musicalité. Malheureusement la soirée fut émaillée de quelques verdeurs et rudesses de la part de l’orchestre qui rendirent le tout un brin endommagé. 

La seule affiche de ce concert réunissant Daniel Barenboim, Radu Lupu et la Staatskapelle de Berlin avait fait venir à Pleyel la foule des grands jours.

Radu Lupu präsentierte ein reines Schubert-Programm wie erwartet in einer gereiften, abgeklärten, subtilen Interpretation: Lupus Stil beeindruckte trotz kleiner Unzulänglichkeiten.

Radu Lupu ließ einst verlauten, nur die Komponisten zu spielen, die zu ihm passten, beziehungsweise die, die ihn am meisten mögen. Diese Worte werfen noch heute Licht auf seine Konzerte. So auch auf den Abend, den er im Pierre-Boulez-Saal gab.

At 71, Radu Lupu continues to amaze. No one gets so much out of a piano with such a light touch and minimum of effort. 

It's not plain-sailing in Lupu's Beethoven, but Järvi's clear-sighted and controlled approach and the Staatskapelle's high-quality playing make for especially musical Shostakovich after the interval.

Any solo recital from Radu Lupu comes with the baggage of a cult, and this Carnegie Hall concert was no exception. Lavish praise from the weeklies aside, there really is something to the aura that surrounds this exquisite pianist. He has a unique sound, seeming to breathe with the concert hall's very air.

Established in 1987 by Leonard Bernstein, the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra last year joined the exclusive club of youth orchestras to have performed at the Salzburg Festival and was immediately invited back for a return appearance this season.
