Premier des cinq concerts célébrant les 90 ans de l'Orchestre National de France, La Damnation de Faust de Berlioz dirigée par Cristian Măcelaru a laissé l'auditeur sur sa faim.

Le public a réservé un accueil très chaleureux à ce gala lyrique, témoignant de la qualité du concert mais aussi de l'appétence des spectateurs pour le récital vocal.

Tugan Sokhiev propose une lecture exaltante de La Damnation de Faust à la Philharmonie de Paris, servie par un orchestre, des chœurs et une Marguerite éblouissants.

Le baryton-basse incarne un parfait Méphistophélès au sein d'une distribution de luxe. Kazuki Yamada dirige un Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo très équilibré.

L'orage qui s'est abattu sur La Côte-Saint-André n'a pas perturbé La Damnation de Faust. La direction attentive de Tugan Sokhiev a mis en avant une distribution de valeur.

Sous la direction de Tugan Sokhiev, l'Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse proposent une interprétation puissante et minutieuse de La Damnation de Faust. Au sein du plateau vocal, les Chœurs de l'institution toulousaine se distinguent.

Pour clôturer la saison, le théâtre du Bolshoï donne sa version de la Damnation de Faust de Berlioz, avec la complicité du metteur en scène allemand Peter Stein. Version respectueuse du livret et de la partition, qui cherche la beauté et la force expressive avant tout.

Pour la Damnation de Faust, Stéphane Lissner a réuni à l'Opéra de Paris sous la baguette de Philippe Jordan la crème des interprètes du moment, et notamment un Faust au style impressionant, pour lequel on se damnerait ! Hélas le metteur en scène A. Hermanis a choisi de transformer l'œuvre en un concept de science-fiction hors de propos.  

Berlioz mis en scène de façon incisive et satirique par David Marton à l’Opéra de Lyon.

Une haute performance de l’ONBA, des solistes et des chœurs, dont l’éminent Chœur de l’Armée française, dans la légende dramatique de Berlioz.

As part of a festival considering the composer's oeuvre, Leon Botstein leads a concert performance of La Damnation de Faust lacking in French style. 

A poisoned rat, sugary girls and just the small matter of a man's soul. Berlioz's légende dramatique deals minor to the major and in the hands of Edward Gardner and a superb cast, the work truly comes to life and brings the composer's unique flair to the fore.

When Hector Berlioz first read Gérard de Nerval's translation of Goethe's Faust, he was entranced: he could not put the book down and worked it into a suite entitled Eight Scenes from Faust. Nearly twenty years later, he came back to the material and expanded it into a larger work La Damnation de Faust, but he was perhaps uncertain as to exactly what it was he had created.
