Eine Sternstunde war Lisa Batiashvilis Interpretation von Tschaikovskys Violinkonzert; unter Dirigent Semyon Bychkov sorgten die Berliner Philharmoniker für schimmernde Klangwelten.

“A place to call home” and “Exiles and Dreamers” is how the LPO marketed this concert. No need for such additional flourishes in an interesting juxtaposition of Tchaikovsky, Dutilleux, George Walker and Dvořák. 

The New York Philharmonic resumed its laudable “Project 19” with a world premiere by Joan Tower, along with a Mozart piano concerto and Dvořák’s Seventh Symphony.

The concerto was by Elgar, the symphony by Dvořák: the BBC Symphony Orchestra with Sakari Oramo and Nicola Benedetti make powerful and compelling statements.
