Compelling singers carry the day in the Glyndebourne Festival Opera's first staging of Wagner’s swansong. 

Christof Loy and Carlo Rizzi score a great success in bringing Respighi’s rarely performed opera the Deutsche Oper Berlin. 

Asmik Grigorian is captivating in an unobtrusive production of Puccini's three one-act operas. Under Franz Welser-Möst, the Vienna Philharmonic is on top form.

David Pountney completes his “Verdi trilogy” for the company but although his staging has fluidity, it lacks an explosive ending... and the vocal performances disappoint. 

The Don is dark and light, the production somewhere in between, with strong singing and musical direction but stodgy staging. 

In the tiring role of Menelaus Andreas Schager was a mighty Heldentenor, combining impressive sound power with a dazzling colour and without ever showing a moment of fatigue.

Musically, WNO gets it right. Straightforward brilliance is the order of the day, and plenty of it.

Le rare opéra de Giordano, inégal mais intéressant, fait son retour dans l'institution genevoise avec un plateau vocal de grande qualité, emmené par le duo Roberto Alagna-Aleksandra Kurzak.

La production vaut le détour essentiellement pour ses deux remarquables interprètes principales, Ruzan Mantashyan et Ambroisine Bré. Le reste peine à se porter à la hauteur de l'œuvre de Massenet.

Puccinis Commedia lirica erscheint in Zürich als Schweizerische Erstaufführung. Ermonela Jaho ist eine fabelhafte Hauptdarstellerin, Christof Loy bietet eine schlüssige Inszenierung und Marco Armiliato lässt Italianità vom Feinsten erklingen. 

La mise en scène de Claus Guth laisse encore une fois sceptique voire irrite, tandis que la direction musicale de Michele Mariotti déçoit. Aylin Pérez compose en revanche une Mimi touchante.

Le metteur en scène franco-allemand transpose l'ouvrage wagnérien dans un univers à la croisée de Mad Max et Star Wars. Johanni van Oostrum se distingue dans le rôle d'Elisabeth.

En création mondiale au Festival d'Aix-en-Provence, Il viaggio, Dante du compositeur français échoue à transmettre la dimension poétique de l'œuvre originelle et bascule dans des ressorts psychologiques dignes d'une série TV.

David Hermann a la bonne idée d'inscrire l'opéra mozartien au temps des crises majeures du premier XXe siècle, mais la machine à jouer finit par tourner à vide et la distribution peine à s'épanouir.

David Pountneys Meistersinger enttäuschen mit einer an Geschichtsverständnis mangelnden und trägen Inszenierung, die aber immerhin stimmliche Glanzmomente liefert.

L'Opéra National de Montpellier présente une nouvelle production de Geneviève de Branbant d'Offenbach. Spectacle quelque peu poussif et musicalement limite.
