Composée en 1812 par Rossini tout juste âgé de 20 ans, L’occasione fa il ladro est une burletta ou petite farce où l’on sourit souvent. Elle cache cependant une réelle profondeur sur les questions de l’amour et de belles prouesses techniques.

C’est une mise en scène dont on se souviendra longtemps : Il re pastore, opéra composé par Mozart alors âgé de 19 ans, fait dès les premiers instants référence aux dessins animés des années 1980, à Star Wars et aux mangas japonais.
