Malgré le choix étonnant de l'amplification des voix qui restera une énigme pendant toute la soirée, le programme révèle les charmes d'une musique rarement donnée avenue Montaigne.

En ce soir de réveillon, les chanteurs en font parfois des tonnes pour caractériser leur personnage, mais le public ne demande que cela dans ce grand classique bien mené par le duo Kaufmann-Damrau.

Dans des lieder de Gustav Mahler et Richard Strauss, les deux chanteurs se sont montrés complices, quitte à faire disparaître la part de tristesse et de mélancolie propre à cet univers poétique.

Malgré la joie de retrouver Jonas Kaufmann en forme dans le rôle de Tristan, la soirée wagnérienne a globalement manqué d'inspiration.

Menée par le trio Tézier-Kaufmann-Radvanovsky, une exécution musicale superbe confère à l'œuvre de Verdi toute l'émotion incandescente dont la prive singulièrement la mise en scène, signée Lotte de Beer.

Soutenus par l’irréprochable Helmut Deutsch, l'Italienisches liederbuch de Jonas Kaufmann et Diana Damrau babillait, roucoulait, allégeant considérablement le style au demeurant sophistiqué d’Hugo Wolf.

Cinq ans après sa création au Teatro alla Scala, l’Opéra de Paris accueille pour dix représentations (avec une double distribution) la production de Lohengrin mise en scène par Claus Guth. Pour la Damnation de Faust, Stéphane Lissner a réuni à l'Opéra de Paris sous la baguette de Philippe Jordan la crème des interprètes du moment, et notamment un Faust au style impressionant, pour lequel on se damnerait ! Hélas le metteur en scène A. Hermanis a choisi de transformer l'œuvre en un concept de science-fiction hors de propos.  

Kirill Petrenko donnait en version de concert au TCE l'opéra qu'il dirigera bientôt sur scène à Munich, avec le même cast. Il avait cependant une guest star de luxe, le Bacchus de Jonas Kaufmann. Une soirée où la musique était à la fête et où le théâtre était quand même présent.
