Familiar works of Mozart and Beethoven were paired with pieces by Hindemith and Prokofiev for an eclectic program. 

For modern ears, Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy is a curious beast, a hybrid of orchestral, concertante and choral genres and thus quite difficult to programme in a regular concert.

Long ago in my former life as a teenage record store clerk, I recall a customer who came into the store one chilly, autumn evening.

Ce lundi 30 mai, un légendaire pianiste et trois des plus grands archets de notre temps se réunissaient pour interpréter les très exigeants quatuors avec piano opus 25, 26 et 60. La probité exacte, souveraine et inentamée de ces lectures était une démonstration parfaite de la différence qu’il y a entre éloquence et emphase.

En récital à l’Auditorium de Lyon, Leif Ove Andsnes dégage l’essence des choses.
