Grosvenor brings out the commonalities and contrasts of two great B minor sonatas, demonstrating his unique pianistic qualities. 

Aided by an immaculate technique and great beauty of sound, the pianist brought new and exciting ideas to familiar works, balancing spontaneity with careful construction in his interpretations.

In his Zankel Hall recital, Gerstein underlined with purposeful clarity the fecundating power of just a few thematic ideas.

Boris Giltburg was one of the must-see performers of this year’s Cheltenham Music Festival, having won the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition for pianists back in June. The hall at the Pittville Pump Room was packed full of anticipation for this renowned pianist.

This was Nikolay Khozyainov’s first return visit to Dublin after having deservedly won first prize in the Dublin International Piano Competition last year. I particularly recall a brilliant and compelling interpretation of Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto no. 3 in the final. Consequently, expectations were very high for this evening’s performance.

Canadian pianist (and sometime composer) Marc-André Hamelin can play anything. Or so it would appear from his recital at Wigmore Hall last night, his first concert in London following his dazzling all-Liszt Prom last Summer.

Le pianiste britannique Benjamin Grosvenor livre au Festival Radio France Occitanie Montpellier un extraordinaire récital, entre exaltation et intériorité. 

Ilya Rashkovskiy excelle dans toutes les parties romantiques, lentes et lyriques. Son approche est cependant trop virtuose, musclée et fougueuse dans toutes les parties techniques et rapides.

Récital de haut vol que celui du pianiste ouzbek Behzod Abduraimov à la Fondation Louis Vuitton. Avec un programme s'articulant principalement autour de la Sonate en si de Liszt et de la Sonate n°6 de Prokofiev, c'est une magnifique leçon de piano qu'il nous offre.

Après Elisabeth Leonskaja, c’était au tour de Dénes Várjon d’enchanter le cloître des Jacobins de compositions hongroises. Le Festival Piano aux Jacobins, dans sa 38ème édition, choisissait pour son deuxième concert le virtuose formé à la Franz Liszt Académie de Budapest.

On ne l'attendait pas vraiment dans ce répertoire : jusque-là, Philippe Cassard se nourrissait essentiellement de monographies, Schubert et Debussy notamment. Mais sous ses doigts, la structure de la Sonate en si se livre de façon immédiate. Vendredi dernier salle Gaveau, la prestation d’un pianiste aussi complet, aussi engagé que Philippe Cassard, a fait saliver les mélomanes.
