If Ashkenazy himself describes it as containing “some of Sibelius’ best music”, it is definitely a discovery worth making.

Vive la France! Last night’s Philharmonia concert was a very Gallic affair; a celebration of French music conducted by the French conductor Stéphane Denève. Fauré’s Pelléas et Mélisande, Debussy’s La Mer and Ravel’s La Valse were all written between 1898 and 1920. The composers are further linked by friendship and an entanglement à trois: Debussy’s second wife was previously the lover of Fauré.

Fauré trop lourd, Busoni assez brouillon, et Brahms trop statique, par les musiciens de l'ONF dirigés par James Gaffigan, avec Renaud Capuçon au violon.

Belle soirée offerte par l’Orchestre de la Suisse Romande qui offrit un éclectique programme entre l’impressionniste Fauré, l’intellectuel Pintscher et le romantique Dvořák. Les trois se fécondant assez peu finalement, reste la qualité de l’interprétation de l’orchestre visiblement porté par l’énergie insufflée par le chef-compositeur. 

Schweizer Hochschulorchester nimmt sich weitgehend vernachlässigter Musik an, die zwar unbekannt aber durchaus hörenswert ist.

Au programme de cette soirée où l’ONL et Leonard Slatkin ont invité Joshua Bell, des escales dans des univers de douceurs ou de puissances, toujours contrastés et aux influences celtique et dansante.
