The first instalment of Covent Garden's new Ring is excellent all round from orchestra and voices, with Barrie Kosky providing plenty of ideas to tease us as to how the cycle will continue.

Gustav Mahler once said that a symphony makes a world. This first concert at the newly-restored Tonhalle was evidence of just that.

Despite its enigmatic details, Bayreuth's Parsifal reaches a cathartic climax.

Kosky’s production manages to maintain all hallmarks of a 16th-century fairy tale, while juxtaposing them with questions of deep human, political and artistic problems. Regietheater at its best.

Gidon Kremer, long-time champion of Sofia Gubaidulina, joined the Berliner Philharmoniker and Christian Thielemann for a performance of In tempus praesens.

Concerto Köln, honed to perfection, and an accomplished cast star in Claus Guth's tense, dark staging of Handel's Jephtha.

Frank Castorf's controversial but supremely well-cast Ring cycle is provocative to the last.

Singing, orchestral playing and scenic portrayal all combine to make a highly memorable second instalment of Wagner's Ring.

Bayreuth's controversial Ring returns with a new conductor and a refreshed cast.

Seldom performed, this Vivaldi work plays on all the great themes of opera: jealousy, identity, paternal and fraternal love, and other human values cast aside for all the wrong reasons.

Bach is music for the soul, and when excellent musicians are performing it, it cannot fail to be beautiful. Thanks to the considerable strengths of the many involved, there is really no better way to spend a weekend in Lent than lamenting through a Bach Passion in the Konzerthaus.
